| UFO |
UFO is a heavily decorated minimalist instrument. It's a mahogany, maple and wenge neck thru with a mahogany ring just big enough for a resonator cone to sit on for a body. Working towards the UFO theme it has an aluminum and reconstituted stone rocket ship inlaid on the ebony fretboard which is scattered with a handful of mother of pearl stars, a red stone planet and a mineral turquoise planet ringed in black pearl. The fretboard is bound and has a red stripe around it. The fretboard tapers to a point and the reverse version of my half-a-headstock curves back at the ear. It's equipped with half of a set of F-style mandolin tuners.
The body, such as it is, has maple and wenge stripes around the perimeter with a bubinga band, which was done this way so that with the shape of the resonator cone above it would mimic a UFO. It's got an armrest that's inlaid with a stylized meteor. The tailpiece is inlaid with an alien hand grasping the earth with a mother of pearl moon looking on.
Since the resonator cone needs a contained but ported volume of air behind it to work properly I've built it as a closed back with three slit ports under a mahogany plate which is inlaid with an alien scene. It depicts an alien made of reconstituted stone in a mother of pearl jumpsuit plating a similar instrument to the one he's inlaid on. He's got his feet up on the control panel of his UFO which is all made of aluminum sheet. The alien dog is half sleeping in the other chair, but he's got one eye open so as to watch you. On the right hand control panel is the UFO from Space Invaders and out the window there's an astronaut in a space capsule waving hello.
Around the picture is spelled out "Dark Star Guitars" in bastardized Klingon.
