| V-kelele |
As a by product of a heated discussion about the possible merits of a flying-V type ukulele I accidentally built one and named it V-kelele.
What's nice about the shape to start with is that of course it'll stand on it's tail leaned up against something and any instrument that can be at hand rather than in a case is more likely to get played. Also the upper tail can be set over your arm when playing which makes it less likely to be muted against your body.
Now the real advantage and the one I was discussing is the simplicity of construction due to the blocked ends and straight sides as can be seen in the last picture.
I built it with a neck thru tenon like my dulcimers and it's got a piezo disc type pickup built into the bridge plate. It's a 17" scale tenor.
I generally don't build acoustic ukes, so this is another one off. I believe it would work out pretty well with magnetic pickups in the style I usually do if anyone was interested. |
