BeachDogs is generally sized like an hourglass dulcimer with a 26 5/8 scale length. It's top, back and sides are made from recycled walnut. The fretboard is moradillo with a lighter colored moradillo inlay to depict the beach. There's a couple of shells and a scattering of pebbles made from various woods as well. The ocean waves are done with maple inlays. The dogs are wenge, ebony, walnut and engraved mother of pearl. The fretboard riser is hollow, as is apperently proper for a dulcimer of this sort and is laminated maple and walnut like a lot of my necks are. The headstock is likewise laminated and carved with my regular headstock minus the points. It's got Grover uke tuners and both the saddle and nut are bone. I've compensated the bridge for better intonation. The action at the first fret is .040 and it's about .080 at the octave. The seashell tailpiece gives a convienient place to put your hand. The soundholes at the front are stingrays to follow the beach theme. The finish is satin lacquer. |
